Henan vs. Tianjin
In Pool 1, strongly reinforced Tianjin smashed home team of Henan in straight sets at Chinese Women’s Volleyball Championship premiere. Foreign players led Tianjin in this match. Cuban Nancy Carrillo had 14 points while Serbian Brankica Mihajlović added 12. Of course, the effect of one more player needs to be mentioned. Chen Liyi scored 14 points. In Henan, American Megan Hodge-Easy was the best scorer with 14 points. Her compatriot Kelly Murphy and Li Weiwei added 11 each.
In same pool, Sichuan made big upset by downing home team of Ba’yi in straight sets as well. Australian Rachel Rourke was amazing with 28 points for the winning team. Wang Yunlu collected 16 in Ba’yi. Liaoning outclassed visiting team of Fujian in four sets.
In Pool 2, vice champions Jiangsu easily prevailed over home team of Shanghai but the biggest impression of the match was league’s 3D opening ceremony that was held before it which marked 20th anniversary of the national championship and paid tribute to the Chinese Women’s Volleyball National Team who took gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
As for the match at Luwan Stadium, Gong Xiangyu scored 16 points for the winners. Czech Helena Havelková noted 12 for Shanghai.
American Karsta Lowe highlighted in Beijing’s win over Shandong with 25 points while 14 points from Puerto Rican Karina Ocasio were not enough for Yunnan who suffered heavy defeat from Zhejiang.
