“I did all the exercises that had been done by other boys, I sat at the table with the team during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone treated me the same, neither better nor worse than any other players. That was very important to me. I felt like a member of the team,” explains Wilfredo Leon for sport.pl.
Leon sent text messages to his teammates before every match at the World Championship. He does not want to reveal the content but admits that he quickly fit into the team
“I encouraged the boys together with my whole family, as well as many fans in Poland. I also supported the team with motivating words before a few matches,” says Leon.
In 2018, he made an important decision, to replace Russia with Italy.
“The decision I made was difficult, but it was time for a change. There are many differences between Russia and Italy in every aspect of life. Of course, there are also changes in the context of training, but it is great to experience working with other coaches,” says Wilfredo Leon.
