Vital-Heynen
Poland are currently preparing for the 2019 EuroVolley, which will start on September 12 in four countries: Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Slovenia. The team coached by Vital Heynen will play Pool D in Amsterdam and Rotterdam and will face the Netherlands, Estonia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Montenegro. The Belgian expert criticized the format of the tournament that consists of 24 participants which are the largest-ever number of teams playing the continental championship and it coincides with the female competition.
“The 24 teams are too much. It can be seen now in the Women’s championship. You can count the number of matches that ended with the result of a 3-0, which is a large percentage, and compare to how it was before. It is not good for Volleyball. One-way matches harm any sport. Tight matches are needed. There are no 24 teams in Europe which are on the same level. I am afraid that it will be the same in the Men’s EuroVolley. I would prefer a tournament with 16 participants,” the head coach of the reigning world champions stated for Polsat Sport.
