Poland’s vice-champions and Cup winners travelled to the United States this past August 31 and spent there 10 days playing a total of 10 matches with collegiate teams, including two fixtures with Pennsylvania State University. Tauron MKS travelled back home after winning seven matches, including four in straight sets. “We were surprised by the fact that these teams played some kind of Asian-style Volleyball, they really defended a lot” says setter Anna Kaczmar. “And they played much better than we had expected” she continues.
The coaching staff and the players were happy with their American tour. “Although not every single match was played at a high level, after each game we felt tired because we needed to play almost our best to score every point” stresses middle-blocker Eleonora Dziekiewicz.
As part of their American tour, Tauron MKS joined the Golden Dome Invitational where they played University of Notre Dame, Bowling Green State University, and Purdue University. This tournament was eventually won by Tauron MKS with three players receiving individual awards and Krystyna Strasz voted MVP.
The next stop in their preparations for the coming season will be the Three Nations tournament in Karpacz where Tauron MKS will play Poland’s champions Atom Trefl SOPOT, Czech champions Agel PROSTEJOV and Germany’s SCHWERINER SC, i.e. three teams that are all set to participate in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Champions League.
