POL M: Zawiercie Cruise to Victory in PlusLiga Finals Opener

Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie opened the Polish PlusLiga finals in dominant fashion by defeating Bogdanka LUK Lublin 3-0 in the first match of the best-of-five championship series.

The hosts controlled the match from start to finish, taking the opening two sets with confidence before overwhelming their opponents in the third. Zawiercie secured the win with set scores of 25:19, 25:21, 25:14.

Aaron Russell led the way with 20 points and earned MVP honors. The American outside hitter finished with a 56 percent success rate in attack, six aces, two blocks, and strong reception numbers.

Bartłomiej Bołądź contributed 11 points for the winners, while Wilfredo Leon scored 14 points for Lublin.

Zawiercie also held the edge across the other statistical categories. They were sharper in attack, produced 13 aces compared to Lublin’s six, dominated at the net with a 12-5 blocking advantage, and made fewer errors, 16 to 18.

The second match of the finals will be played on Wednesday, April 29, in Lublin, where the home side will look to level the series.
