Poland has high goals for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, planning to return two retired players from the national team and engage a new one!

As Paweł Papke, the President of the Polish Volleyball Federation, stated for Polish media, there is a good chance that Michał Winiarski and Mariusz Wlazły will wear the Polish jersey in one year. After the 2014 World Championship, both players, along with two more, said farewell to the NT.

„Winiarski did not give up on the national team forever, just for this season. He was just worn out, very tired, but in the next, he will be at the disposal of Stéphane (head coach Antiga). Regarding Wlazły, the situation is a bit more difficult. The coach probably have the greatest impact on him out of all of us. If he wants to return, the path is clear for him,“ the helmsman of the Polish VF said.

„As for León, of course, he received Polish citizenship, but the road for him to play for our national team is still very long. Rumor is that the FIVB could reduce the mandatory two-year grace period (when a foreign player gets opportunity to play for other NT) to one year, but I honestly think it’s unlikely to happen… At the moment, we think León will be able to play for us in July 2017,“ Papke concluded.

Recall how Winiarski and Wlazły played the semifinal match vs. Germany at the 2014 WCH.

I hope only for one tournament. It’s time for the younger ones, no place for sentiment.

Papke, it’s your job to do everything possible to shorten Leon’s waiting period. Nobody’s gonna do it for you, you’re the president, remember…?

not everything depends on papke. in fivb there are many russians and brazilians that may make problems with shorting waiting period of leon cause it’s natural they don’t want to strenghten other national team for olympics. it’s obvious only money can solve this or when brazil will as well prepare leal for rio so they will have to do it with leon’s case too.
