„We knew that there will be a doping test at the CEV Cup final, and that we had residual traces of meldonium. Very small, fading, tens and hundreds of times less than the threshold which was set by WADA, ten days later. In other words, the device could see the traces of what has got into the body at the time when meldonium was not banned. But, this recognition came too late for us,” said coach of Yugra, Rafael Khabibullin.

“According to the rules, on the final day was a risk of a disqualification! We simply have not had the opportunity to fully compete for the trophy, we have become hostages of the situation. And we are not alone. It’s a shame, of course, that the fate of the CEV Cup was solved in this way,” he added for club’s website.

Recall that Yugra explained the absence of Bakun, Apalikov and Brdjović with the busy schedule.
