Konstantinov
“The global economic crisis could not avoid sports. There are less foreign players in Russia than before and that immediately had a negative effect on smaller clubs. Without good foreign players they are not able to create good teams, as all the best domestic players are going to the top teams. Today, we have a big difference between the top teams such are Zenit Kazan, Dinamo Moscow or Belogorie Belgorod and the rest of the league. Even before the start of the championship you already know who will the title and that is a big minus for the competition,” said Konstantinov for championat.ru.
He also added that the teams must find other ways to earn money.
“Almost all teams are depending on the support of the local government. Yes, that support is absolutely necessary, but we need to find additional ways for funding, like making deals with partners and sponsors, and eventually maybe trying with privatization. Then the situation in Russian volleyball might change.”
