The first duel between Brazilian and Argentinean clubs at the 2020 Campeonato Sudamericano de Clubes in Contagem ended with the victory of hosts and also defending champions Sada Cruzeiro. Brazilian runners-up beat Argentinean titleholders Bolívar Voley in Pool B in straight sets but in a very disputed match: 3-0 (25-18, 29-27, 25-23). Otávio Pinto delivered 10 points for the winning side. Knowing that a team coached by Marcelo Méndez was victorious at the opening of the tournament, it has reached the leadership of the pool and qualified for the semifinals.
In the opening match of Day 2, the other Brazilian team EMS Taubaté Funvic debuted in this year’s event with a 3-0 win against the Peruvian Regatas Lima (out of the competition with 2 defeats) in Pool A. A duel of Taubaté and UPCN San Juan Voley Club from Argentina, tomorrow, will define who will finish first in the pool as both clubs booked semifinal ticket.
