In a stunning display of volleyball prowess, Dentil Praia and Gerdau Minas have both emerged victorious in the South American Club Championship semifinals, also securing their spots in the FIVB World Championship.
In the first match, reigning champions Gerdau Minas faced off against Regatas Lima, Peru’s eight-time national league champions, in the Dentil Arena of Praia Clube. The Brazilian team demonstrated their experience, defeating the Peruvians in a sweeping 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18. This triumph marks the sixth consecutive time that Gerdau Minas has reached the South American Club Championship final. Gerdau Minas’ opposite player, Kisy, led the match in scoring with 16 points.
Later that day, Dentil Praia Clube, buoyed by a sea of supportive fans at their home court, the Arena Dentil, defeated Sesi Bauru 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19). This victory not only guaranteed their place in the South American final but also their entry to the Club World Championship. Brayelin Martínez of Dentil Praia Clube topped the scoreboard with 18 points.
The final stage will see Dentil Praia Clube and Gerdau Minas recreate the finals of the previous two South American Club Championships, held at Arena Dentil in Uberlândia. In the 2021 Championship, Uberlândia’s team took the trophy, but Minas claimed it last year. The teams clashed only a week ago in the Volleyball Super League final, with Praia Clube coming out on top. This rematch promises to be a thrilling contest between these two titans of South American volleyball.
