Volleyball world will never forget you – Kervin Piñerua (1991-2016)

by WoV

He was the captain of Venezuela men's national team, a great volleyball player, a great man... He left this world too soon.

A whole volleyball world is still in shock after hearing tragic news from Turkey where Kervin Piñerua died of a heart attack at the age of 25. His last club was Turkish Afyon, while before that Piñerua played for Vikingos de Miranda (Venezuela), Zahra Club (Lebanon), Vk Prievidza (Slovakia), Matera Bulls (Italy), Galatasaray (Turkey) and SOS Villa Maria (Argentina).

He entered the Venezuela national team in 2009, when he was 18 years old. Two years later Piñerua led Venezuela toward the gold medal at the 2011 Junior Pan-American Cup, while in the same year he won the bronze medal with the senior team at 2011 South American Championship. He was voted the best server at that competition.

At the 2016 FIVB World Olympic Qualifiers, Piñerua was the 9th best scorer of the tournament. He played as the captain of Venezuela.

Let us all remember for a moment what a great player Kervin Piñerua was.
