TUR: Izmir ready to host historic event

This year, Turkey’s national cup was renamed to Teledunya Super Cup. The Final Four tournaments in both the men’s and the women’s editions of the competition will be held this weekend in Izmir. This will be the first time in Turkey’s history that an event like this for both genders takes place at the same time.

So the beautiful city of Izmir on Turkey’s west coast is getting ready to host the eight most powerful teams of Turkey in the Teledunya Super Cup’s Final Fours this weekend.  On the women’s side, Eczacibasi Vitra,  Fenerbahçe SK, Galatasaray Daikin and VakifBank will be battling for the trophy, while Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBULHalkbank ANKARAIstanbul BBSK and  Maliye Milli Piyango ANKARA are the men’s teams that will lock horns in fight for the cup.

Statements from the coaches:

Eczacıbasi VitrA assistant coach Alper Hamurcu:  “This is a serious tournament that is going to take place in three competition days.  Everybody is looking forward to it.  There will be some very successful international players out there.  Izmir will watch a high quality tournament. We will do our best to win the cup.”

Fenerbahce coach Marcello Abbondanza:  “The Teledunya Super Cup is a very important tournament.  It came in a very tough time because our schedule is very busy.  It is going to be tough.  All four teams have the power to make it to the final.  We will try to do better than the others.”

Galatasaray Daikin assistant coach Ataman Guneyligil:  “We are very happy to be a part of this event.  The best teams for both women and men will be in Izmır this weekend.  I wish good luck to everyone who will participate in the Final Fours.”

VakıfBank coach Giovanni Guidetti:  “Frst of all, I want to thank the Turkish Volleyball Federation.  I think this is the first time in volleyball history that both men and women teams are playing Final Fours at the same time.  I think that all my 14 players are ready for the matches. We want to win that cup.”

Fenerbahce Grundig manager Abdullah Pasaoglu:  “We want to thank the Turskih Volleyball Federation, Teledunya and sportstv first.  I believe there will be high-class matches in Izmir.  Izmir is a city that loves volleyball.  I think it will be a real volleyball festival out there…” 

Halkbank coach Radostin Stoytchev:  “We are thankful to TVF and all the sponsors.  It is an honor to take part in the Final Four.  It is very important in Turkish volleyball.  We are training hard in order to win this cup.  I congratulate all the teams who showed great performances to come here.”

ISTANBUL BBSK coach Nedim Ozbey:  “We will do our best to win this cup after a tough Turkish League period and European Cup matches.  I hope it will finish with no injuries.  I believe that all four teams will fight to win the cup, and so will we.”

Maliye Milli Piyango coach Josko Milenkoski:  “We are very happy to be part of this event for the first time in our club’s history.  Maybe we are not ready to win this cup at the moment, but we will do our best and will try to make a surprise.”
