The AXA Sigorta Men’s Volleyball League for the 2023-2024 season kicked off today, featuring two major matchups.

In a nail-biting match in Izmir, Galatasaray HDI Sigorta managed to overcome Arkas Spor. Despite trailing 0-1 and 1-2, they clinched victory with a decisive 15-10 in the fifth set. Top scorers of the match were Gyorgy Grozer from Arkas with 28 points and Jan Hadrava from Galatasaray, also with 28. Notably, Mirza Lagumdzija impressed for Arkas, contributing 23 points, while Miran Kujundzic from Galatasaray added 17 points to the tally.

In another high-voltage derby, Halkbank edged out Ziraat Bankkart in a five-set thriller (25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 16-14). Halkbank’s Nimir Abdel-Aziz emerged as the match’s top scorer, amassing a colossal 36 points, supported by Earwin Ngapeth’s 20 points. For Ziraat Bankkart, Wouter Ter Maat and Oreol Camejo were in top form, scoring 19 and 17 points respectively.
