Thanks to the better set ratio, Sir Safety Perugia secured top spot in the standings and traveled to Turkey to maintain its unbeaten record in the competition this season.
Still, Halkbank Ankara is too strong and respectable team to allow the Italian representative to count on victory with no sweat spilled on the court.
And, eventually, the Turkish team was better – 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 25-18). Thus, Perugia’s winning streak of five matches in Champions League is broken. One of the reasons is that its coach Nikola Grbić gave the chance to youngsters.
Of course, both teams will play in the playoff.
Osmany Juantorena was brilliant with 21 points in Halkbank. On the other side, Georgios Tzioumakas scored 17.
