Despite the fact the match against Halkbank Ankara was of no significance for Fenerbahçe İstanbul, the ’Yellow Angels’ did their best to turn the course of the match into their favor after trailing 1-0 and 2-1 in sets and win it in the tie-break.
Fenerbahçe coach, Italian Marcello Abbondanza, mixed line-up a bit, leaving Asian duo Nootsara Tomkom – Kim Yeon-Koung out until the final two sets while Halkbank provided surprisingly enourmous resistance to the favorites, although being deprived of the help from their and also league’s best scorer, Cuban Wilma Salas. Brazilian Natália Zilio topped Fenerbahçe’s scorers with 22 points while Croatian Ana Starčević scored 18 (5 aces) for Halkbank.
At the end of the match, Korean fans in the stands made a surprise for Kim. They brought a cake with candles on it to wish a happy 29th birthday to their favorite player. Kim gladly accepted to blow out the candles and put a birthday hat on.
