No.8 Beşiktaş scared reputable rivals, showing that first round of the playoffs in Turkey will be much more than a mere work-off for VakıfBank 3-2 (25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 20-25, 15-12).
Despite outblocking VakıfBank (18-11) and making more aces (12-3), home team of Beşiktaş did not manage to throw giants on their knees. So, the logical question must be asked – if they did not do it now, when will they?
Chinese receiver Zhu Ting led VakıfBank to win with 28 points. Turkish Junior NT duo, a 19-year-old Tuğba Şenoğlu and 18-yea-old Yasemin Güveli topped Beşiktaş’ scorers with 17 points each.
Game 2 is scheduled for March 30 at VakıfBank‘s court.
