The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation officially announced that Marcello Abbondanza will take over as the new head coach of Bulgaria’s women’s national team.
The Italian coach, who previously led Bulgaria over a decade ago, has signed a two-year deal with an option to extend for another year. His main tasks will be to secure Bulgaria’s place in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) and to achieve a top-10 finish at the European Championship.
Abbondanza, 55, will continue his work as head coach of Fenerbahçe Istanbul while taking on the national role. Following discussions within the federation, the board voted 10–5 in favor of Abbondanza, ahead of other candidates Ivan Petkov and Radoslav Arsov.
