The 33-year-old setter will join the Italian champions as the backup to captain Joanna Wołosz and will wear jersey number 12.

Yao arrives with a strong record at club and international level. She spent 14 seasons with Tianjin, winning seven Chinese league titles and two Asian Champions League trophies. She was also named the league’s best setter four times.

The Chinese international previously played in Italy with Scandicci during the 2022/23 season, helping the club win the CEV Cup.

With the Chinese national team, Yao has won gold at the 2017 Grand Champions Cup and the 2019 World Cup. Her medal collection also includes bronze at the 2018 World Championship.

“Conegliano was always my first choice,” Yao said. “It is one of the best clubs in the world, and I am excited to join a team that continues to make history.”

Yao will also share the court with fellow Chinese player Zhu Ting, who she believes will help her adapt quickly to her new surroundings.

“I know Italian volleyball from my experience at Scandicci, and I have already seen the quality of Conegliano’s work and the passion of its supporters,” she said. “I cannot wait to play at the Palaverde.”
