Brazilian powerhouse Sada Cruzeiro is considering a potential move for veteran outside hitter Yoandy Leal, according to foreign media reports, raising the prospect of a return more than seven years after his departure.
Leal, 37, currently plays for Halkbank Ankara, where he is under contract through the 2025/26 season. He would be available on a free transfer once that deal expires.
Born in Cuba, Leal was one of the world’s top prospects. After leaving his homeland he obtained Brazilian citizenship in 2017. He went on to represent Brazil internationally, winning the 2019 World Cup, the 2022 Volleyball Nations League and a bronze medal at the 2022 world championships.
Leal enjoyed the most successful club period of his career with Sada Cruzeiro from 2012 to 2018, winning multiple Brazilian titles and three Club World Championships. When he left for Italy’s Cucine Lube Civitanova, Sada Cruzeiro retired his jersey number, signaling the club’s hope of one day bringing him back.
