The Italian coach was absent from the bench during Galatasaray’s 3–1 win over Aras Kargo on Tuesday. While the club cited official leave as the reason for his absence, multiple sources indicate that negotiations are underway to terminate his contract, which runs through 2027.

Barbolini, who was in his second spell with the Istanbul-based side, had reportedly already decided to part ways with the club. His departure would mark the conclusion of another chapter for the experienced Modena-born coach in Turkish volleyball.

Assistant coach Alberto Bigarelli stepped in to lead the team against Aras Kargo and is expected to remain in charge until the end of the season. Bigarelli had previously been mentioned as a potential successor for the 2026–27 campaign.

Galatasaray currently sits fifth in the league standings with a 14–7 record, trailing VakifBank, Fenerbahçe, Zeren and Eczacıbaşı.
