Italy is the first national team that booked the spot in the semifinals of the 2021 CEV U20 Men’s Volleyball Championship in the Czech Republic (Brno and Kuřim).

After the fourth 3-0 win in as many games and without losing a single set, Italy became the first national team to secure a place in the semifinals of the 2021 U20 EuroVolley, doing it as the leader in Pool I with 12 points at their account.

The “Azzurri” defeat France in Brno on the penultimate day of the preliminary stage, being led in scoring by Tommaso Rinaldi (15 points) and in reception by Damiano Catania (71 %; 53 % excellent). Antoine Pothron scored 10 points for France.

In the same pool, Belgium and Poland recorded straight-set wins as well to line up behind Italy in the charts with 7 points apiece.

Russia prevailed over Germany in Brno, in Pool II, after the tie-break – 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-5) – and settled at the top of the pool with 5 points. They need to earn one more point on the last day against the Netherlands to book a semifinal spot.

Stanislav Dineykin top-scored “Zbornaya” with 21 points, while Omar Kurbanov made 71 % reception (57 % excellent). Simon Valentin Torwie put down 18 points for the losing side.
