Russia’s Dinamo Moscow prevailed over France’s Montpellier Castelnau UC by a 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 13-25, 25-21) in the 1st leg of the 2021 Men’s CEV Cup semifinals. It was the long-awaited encounter in the Russian capital given that the two sides are leaders of their respective national championships.
Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov tallied 22 points for Dinamo, while Pavel Pankov served 5 aces and made 4 blocks. Canadian Ryan Joseph Sclater scored 14 points for Montpellier, while his compatriot Danny Demyanenko set up 5 blocks.
Russian teams achieved 100 % effectiveness in the semis as Zenit Saint Petersburg beat Belgium’s VC Greenyard Maaseik in 4 sets as well. Egor Kliuka (81 % attack; 17/21) and Ivan Podrebinkin notched 18 points apiece on the winning side. Jolan Cox scored 18 points for Maaseik.
