You really won’t see this quite often in Volleyball. Actually, in any sports...

Cameroon

Cameroon

Cameroon national team arrived in Bari, Italy, for the FIVB Men’s Volleyball International Qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a 9-player roster who were registered for the tournament.

But, at the moment when this group of players came to Italy, the other group, who went on some sort of strike against the national federation, departed from Cameroon, heading towards Italy! This group contains 7 players, for which was said they will remain to train for the upcoming African Games (August 19-31). As it turned out, and that’s what Cameroonian Volleyball Federation (FCV) President Julien Serge Abouem, stated – these players had a misunderstanding with the federation in regard to the bonuses for playing the recent African Championship, in which Cameroon won the silver medal.

After these misunderstandings have been resolved, the 7 players (Nathan Wounembaina, Alain Fossi, Ahmed Awal, Sem Dolengombai, Charly Engohe, Georges Kari and Sali Hilé) went to Italy and will play the Tokyo Qualifier if arrive in time (Cameroon face Italy tonight at 21:15 C.E.T.). Yvan Kody is the only player out of those that were on strike, who will skip the tournament in Bari and appear directly in the African Games in Morocco.
