WCH U19 M: Italy grab the crown!

618 0

Italy are celebrating the success of their U19 national team at the U 19 World Championship.

They have managed to win the gold medal after beating Russia in the finals 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18).

The 'Azzurri' wrapped up the competition undefeated with an 8-0 record, 22 years after their previous (and only other) success in the competition when Italy beat Greece for gold in 1997 in Tehran.

After losing to Iran in the previous edition of the World Championship for boys U19, Russia failed again in this year's edition since Italy were better in four sets.

After two sets, the game was tied but in another two, Italy simply smashed the rival to win the championship.

Alessandro Michieletto was top scorer of the game with 20 points for Italy, as his teammate Stefani added another 18. Ilya Kazachenkov was Russia's best scorer with 16.

Italy's attacking efficiency of 49% (50/102) was vastly superior to Russia's 37% (36/97).

INTERVIEW: Hippe for WoV – “Live in the moment and make the best out of it”

'Until a year ago, Hippe was an indispensable member of the Germany National Team.' is not correct. She has not been playing for the national team since 2013. Reply

For the first time in history, Italy won’t participate in VNL

Well Sports Fans, the reality is that Italy won't be alone and you can bet more Federations will do the same as this worlwide pandemic evolves. Summer sports for all will not be happening and I can forsee European Leagues holding off until late October and November. Budgets for all clubs and federations are in a holding pattern until we get a better grip on this virus. Its actually a smart decision by the Italians. Hopefully the Atheltes use this time to rest and strengthen their bodies Reply
