The Chinese Volleyball League (CVL) made a change in the calendar that will affect many worldwide stars competing in this tournament that is getting stronger each year.

Shanghai-2019

By bringing in big names of world volleyball in recent years, both Chinese Men’s and Women’s Championship became very interesting to watch. Foreign players saw one more advantage of coming to play there besides earning good money. Since Chinese leagues usually start approximately at the same time as most of the leagues around the globe but last up to three months shorter, foreign players were able to join some of the teams in the stronger championship, like Italian, Polish, Russian, etc., for the play-offs. And also to sign one more heavy contract in the same season and be closer to the eyes of the managers and coaches. Now, foreigners will have a chance to find new engagement earlier than before – especially female players.

Since the CVL made a decision to start its professional Women’s league on November 2, 2019, and end it on January 21, 2020, foreign players will be able to seek new teams outside China already in the mid-season and have more time to get ready for competing in more intense leagues. As for the Men’s Chinese Championship, it will start in unusual period – right after the end of continental Olympic qualification on January 19, 2019. It is determined to end on April 15, 2020. This means that foreigners have two options – either to start the season in some team outside China and finish it there or to start the season in China (just to conduct preparations until then) and join some team outside the country for the play-offs.
