TURKISH CUP W: VakıfBank dominantly to 7th title in competition

VakıfBank defeated Eczacıbaşı VitrA in straight sets in the final of the 2021 Turkish Women’s Volleyball Cup.


VakıfBank won the jubilee 20th edition of the Turkish Women’s AXA Sigorta Kupa Voley. In the final in Istanbul, the team coached by Giovanni Guidetti gave no chance to Eczacıbaşı: 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-22), Thus, VakıfBank claimed the 7th title in the competition (1995, 1997, 1998, 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2021).

Zehra Güneş, who top-scored the winning side with 12 points, was named MVP of the tournament. VakıfBank wrecked the ‘Tigers’ from the service line, putting down 13 aces, 5 of which were made by Meliha İsmailoğlu. American Michelle Bartsch-Hackley had 72 % reception (18 digs, 67 % perfect). Serbian Tijana Bošković tallied 20 points for Eczacıbaşı, including 4 aces.

He signed a 2-years contract with Zaksa last year. He won Polish Cup with them, not sure what happened so Zaksa lost the championship. They kicked out Lube and Zenit from the Champions League and have a good chance of becoming European champion although Trentino didn't win anything this year so this is their last chance.

Russell had one of the best sports surgeons in the world work on him so I expect he will be in great hands. While devastating for any athlete Russell is young enough to have both Paris and Los Angeles in his Olympic future at very high level.
Piacenza is building something very special there and Russell is a perfect type of player and professional to attract others to come there and build around.
