The first two sets of Group 1 – Pool B clash in Rio de Janeiro were pure demonstration of power by the South American side while Iran showed their potential only in the third set when they needed a bit more strength to reduce opponent’s lead.

Brazil had comfortable 18-15 lead in Set 3 on Wallace Souza’s block. The hosts even had 22-19 in the finish of the set when Lucas Saatkamp ’Lucão’ converted quick attack. Upon Raúl Lozano’s time-out, Iran leveled, saved one match ball, missed two of their own before Ricardo Lucarelli sealed it with two huge serves 28-26.

Lucão topped Brazil’s scorers with 17 points while Shahram Mahmoudi had 12 in Iran.
