Südtirol Bolzano, a true refreshment in the Italian Women’s Volleyball in the last two seasons, gave up on competing in the national top division in 2017/2018.

As the club announced, its management spent last two months trying to find sponsors to give a further boost to the project in Serie A1, but they failed to do so.

Bolzano, who competed in the Italian Championship for the last two seasons, which were their only seasons ever in the top division, emphasized that financial problems were not the only problems that forced them to withdraw but some others as well, which they do not want to mention to avoid “unnecessary controversy”, giving a hint they are related to the “gender”.

A club who took part in the knockout stages of the both national championship and Cup in 2016/2017, for the first time ever (eliminated in 1/8 Finals and quarterfinals, respectively), will soon decide on its future with precision, saying that it will continue its activity for sure.

“In fact, both the youth sector and the first team will continue to exist, for which it will still be possible to play some level of a national league, if not Serie A1,” Bolzano explained.
