No.2 Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza lost Game 1 of the 2017/18 V.League semifinal (Final 3) against third-seed JT Thunders by a 3-1 and needed any kind of victory in Game 2 in order to stretch the series to the Golden Set. And they did it.
Led by Takuya Takamatsu (scored 25 points) and without their best scorer, the Croatian Igor Omrčen, from the second set (11 points before leaving the court), Trefuerza prevailed by a 3-1 (27-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16). Ryota Denda added 6 kill blocks for Trefuerza, whose job today was quite easier at Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, hosting venue for Final 3, as the Thunders were deprived of help from an Australian opposite Thomas Edgar. Shohei Yamamoto was the best scorer on the losing side with 13 points.
Trefuerza claimed the Golden Set by a 26-24 in which Takamatsu added five more points to his account (30 points overall) and had a big support from Ryosuke Tsubakiyama, who also made five points in this period. As for the Thunders, Daisuke Yako recorded 6 points in the Golden Set (18 points overall).
Game 1 of the finals between No.1 Panasonic Panthers and Trefuerza will begin on March 10.
