Russian national team, led by impressive Maksim Mikhailov, tormented itself and its fans in the first two sets versus Argentina, but secured third win at the 2015 FIVB World Cup in Japan 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20). Mikhailov was impressive with 19 points, no doubt, but Facundo Conte's 27 were better. Although, not enough...

After a slow start of the match from both sides full of service errors, Argentina was the first to go ahead on a scoreboard 9-6. The highest percentage of the balls in Russian attack went to Mikhailov and after sending shots wide, he began to score as Russia took the lead 12-11. To be honest, not so impressive volleyball was seen in Set 1. Russia created the gap 19-16, after Argentinians shot unprecisely, and kept it all the way 25-18.

Conte and Zornetta boosted the rhythm of the South Americans in Set 2 for their 8-4 and 13-7 lead! Russian head coach Alekno figured out that setter Grankin has been choosing bad solutions, replacing him with Butko but the set was already slipping from „Zbornaya’s“ hands 19-11. Muserskiy was playful in the finish, trying to reach Argentina’s advantage but couldn’t play alone, although his team came to 23-20. Tetyukhin’s poor spike marked the end, 25-21 for Argentina.

Argentina’s coach Velasco was forced to call time-out already after four points in Set 3 (3-1). Mikhailov was on fire, while on the other side, Conte seemed to lost some of his energy 12-6. With three points scored in a row, Argentina approached to 12-8. Russia missed several opportunities to break the rival especially because of a bad day of its both setters. Nevertheless, two consecutive points from Volvich opened the way for Russia 25-18.

With substantial advantage in serves and blocks, Russia was marching towards victory. In Set 4, Conte’s and Crer’s spikes were heavily grounded, while Mikhailov was unstoppable, followed by Kurkaev 11-4. „Zbornaya“ had a win in its pocket that couldn’t be spoiled even with three consecutive points from Conte at 19-7. The game finished with final 25-20.
