RIO 2016 M: Canada advance to the quarterfinals! It means France or Brazil will be OUT!

The red and whites are still living their Olympic dream. Canada have qualified for the quarterfinals at the Rio men's volleyball tournament!

What an ending of the group stage! Canada defeated Italy in four sets and booked their ticket for the knockout stage! It also means that France or Brazil will decide in their direct clash who will continue the competition and who will suffer a shocking elimination from the Rio Olympics!

Canada played a very good game against pretty relaxed Italy, who have already secured the top spot in the group. With Gavin Schmitt on fire (25 points), the Canadians prevailed at the end and collected such a valuable triumph.  

Italy – Canada 1:3 (23:25, 17:25, 25:16, 21:25)

Italy: Vettori 20, Juantorena 16, Zaytsev 9, Buti 6, Giannelli 5, Antonov 5, Lanza 3, Sottile, Rossini, Colaci, Birarelli.

Canada: Schmitt 25, Vigrass 14, Perrin 9, Hoag 5, Sanders 2, Vandoorn 2, Verhoeff, Duff, Winters, Bann, Blankenau, Marshall. 

Group A: Italy 4-1 (12 points), Canada 3-2 (9 points), USA 3-2 (9 points), France 2-2 (6 points), Brazil 2-2 (6 points), Mexico 0-5 (0 points).
