Oh, this will be a special volleyball season in Russia. Another fantastic game, another super exciting derby match… Zenit Kazan made a major step toward the title as they defeated Lokomotiv Novosibirsk on the road! The reigning champions scored a straight sets win which might be very important later in this season.
Lokomotiv Novosibirsk entered this match as the leader on the standings with all 4 wins from the previous 4 rounds. But, they were not good today… Or better to say, Zenit were too good. The visiting side won the opening two sets and then had 3 match points in the third set – 24:21.
After a bad reception of the home players Wilfredo Leon had an easy job to dunk the ball right at the net, but Cuban star somehow hit Artem Volvich and the ball remained above floor… Then Denis Zemchenok scored an unbelievable point! He was way outside court, somewhere near his team bench, so he just tried to send the ball over the net, but it hit the top, tricked Zenit’s defense and fell down – 24:22!
Then Zemchenok went on the service line and made an ace – 24:23! He had another great serve, Igor Kobzar made not so good pass to Wilfredo Leon, while Cuban player spiked the ball right into the net – 24:24! However, that’s where the Lokomotiv’s dream of any comeback ended. Zemchenok made a service mistake – 25:24, while on the other side Leon was about to serve… He made an ace – 26:24, 3-0 for Zenit.
