With the new head coach Sergey Shlyapnikov at the helm, Russia will try to win the 2017 FIVB World League, but they will be without two excellent players on that journey.

Dmitriy Musersky and Alexey Spiridonov will not play for Russia in the 2017 FIVB World League.

The reasons are different. Muserskiy is still struggling with injury and the coaching staff decided to give him couple of months off, so he can fully recover. On the other side, Spiridonov finished his season on April 23 and he admitted that it was difficult for him to stay in good shape for the World League.

“Alexey wants to help, but he can do that only if he is in good shape. And at his age, it was difficult for him to get back to good shape so quickly, as he missed one month of action. It was his decision,” said Russian head coach Sergey Shlyapnikov
