In Santiago’s 2023 Pan American Games, Brazilian beach volleyball duos proved to be dominant forces in both men’s and women’s tournaments. Ana Patricia and Duda clinched the women’s title, while George and André emerged victorious in the men’s category.
Ana Patricia and Duda of Brazil outperformed Canadians Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes in a tight match, ending 2-0 (22-20, 21-18). This victory marks Brazil’s fourth gold in Pan American Games history, with the maiden win in 2011.
The bronze medal in the women’s division was awarded to Corine Quiggle and Sarah Lewis from the USA after their 2-0 (21-18, 21-10) triumph over Argentina’s representatives.
In the men’s competition, George and André secured the gold medal after a nail-biting face-off against Cuba’s Noslen Díaz and Jorge Alayo, ending 2-1 (21-12, 19-21, 15-13). This match witnessed a rollercoaster of emotions, with the Cuban duo showing resilience, especially in the second set. But Brazil’s George and André managed to pull through, further solidifying Brazil’s reputation as a powerhouse in the sport.
Claiming the bronze in the men’s category were Chile’s very own Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt.
