Teen talents from Sweden face Olympic medalists from Qatar in Sunday’s title match
A thrilling David-versus-Goliath finale is set for Sunday at the Beach Pro Tour Gstaad Elite, where Sweden’s youthful breakout pair, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, will go toe-to-toe with Qatar’s seasoned Olympians, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, in the men’s gold medal match.
The Swedish teens, aged just 20 and 19, have captured headlines all week with their fearless run from the qualification rounds to the tournament’s biggest stage. On Saturday, they stunned both Brazilian Olympic teams, taking back-to-back wins in straight sets to book their place in the final.
“We didn’t think we’d even be in the tournament,” said a beaming Andersson after their semifinal win. “Being in the final is just unbelievable.”
Meanwhile, the experienced Qatari duo is eyeing redemption in Gstaad, having settled for silver in 2021. This time, they’re determined to leave with gold. After toppling two tough Dutch teams, Cherif credited their grit and mental toughness for the day’s success.
“We knew today was about giving it everything,” he said. “This final means a lot—and we’re not done yet.”
