Two players who last Sunday won a historic gold medal for Team USA at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014 – Alisha Glass and Rachael Adams – will be wearing this season the shirt of Prosecco Doc-Imoco CONEGLIANO, one of two teams representing Italy in the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.

Alisha Glass – who was awarded as Best Setter of the World Championship – and Rachael Adams were introduced to their fans on Sunday at Palaverde shortly before the start of a friendly match with China’s heavyweight Bohai Bank TIANJINGlass is back in the Italian national league after spending the 2013/2014 season in Turkey playing for Fenerbahce.

“I am very happy with the opportunity to play again here in Italy,” she said. “The quality of life is just outstanding and the national league is extremely competitive. I liked this club right from the beginning; they are very professional and well organised and could already feel the energy and passion of the fans. We just won the World Championship a week ago so I do hope that Rachael and I will share that positive energy with our teammates so that we can start the season in the right way. We went home after the final on Sunday and of course we did not sleep a lot, first during the tournament moving from one city to the next one, and then also at home where we spent a few days with family and friends. We have been partying a bit but now we are here and are very motivated to continue our good job also with Imoco and want to win more.

I am of course delighted that I am here and that I will be able to work with Alisha and an excellent coach like Nicola Negro,” Adams commented. “I know that the team is strong, I already know most of the players on the roster and am aware that we can shoot high. It was nice to see so many people here today, I was told that the fans here are very passionate and I am confident that this will be one additional positive factor for us. As Alisha said, I also celebrated a bit with family and friends, I did not sleep much but I wanted to share this joy with all those who love and support me.”

Glass – who was initiated to the sport by her mom, a Volleyball coach – was evidently proud also of the individual award she received last Sunday in Milano:

There are many good setters out there so to receive this award is just great. It is a way to reward the hard work we all have gone through and also an honour for me personally. I am very happy but want to continue to work hard so that I can keep on improving. The World Championship has been an amazing journey; we believed in our chances right from the start and we could achieve a historic result for Team USA working hard and with a lot of determination. We have a great group of players and I am confident that all together we can win some more competitions in the future.

Rachael Adams will be working again with coach Nicola Negro after the two crossed their ways last year in Poland at Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA.

“The Italian national league is extremely competitive and I feel privileged as I will be working with Alisha, the best setter in the world, and with an excellent coach. I can learn a lot here and improve at all levels. I am convinced that I made the perfect choice for the continuation of my career.

If Glass has Volleyball in her genes, Adams started playing almost by chance: “I started when I was a little child but I did not feel it was the right choice for me so I switched to basketball. Then, years later, one friend asked me to join her for a summer camp and knowing it was all about Volleyball I had taken many books with me. One day one of the coaches there at the camp asked me to join the actions and here I am now.

As for the World Champs where USA won a historic gold, Adams says: “It has been a dream, an unforgettable experience. It was also the perfect way to pay back our hard work and a terrific joy to share with all those who believed in us.”
