He is a very special player and volleyball needs him. After spending the entire career in Russia, he has decided to take a new challenge – to play abroad for the first time in his life.

Let’s see what are his impressions about it so far.

Alexey, you are playing for the first time outside Russia. How does it feel like to play abroad for the first time in your career?

Yes, this is my first experience outside Russia and I am very glad to play and live in this sunny country such as Qatar.”

Why did you decide to go to Qatar?

I played in Russia for a long time. There is a lot of cold periods so I decided to go to someplace where the sun is shining all day and where is warm weather.”

What are your impressions about the league in Qatar? What it lacks to reach the Russian league level for example?

The league certainly can’t be compared to the Russian, but in my opinion, the league in Russia is the strongest and the most difficult championship, because there are a lot of time zones and flights. Everything is much simpler here, all games are held in the same arena and you don’t have to go anywhere. I will say that the level of the Qatar championship is decent with huge potential. Five to six clubs are pretending to attack the championship title.”

Have you got used to life in Qatar?

Yes, I got used to living here, don’t need any warm clothes only shorts and flip flops. It’s a pity we have this situation with C19, so I can’t move my family – I really miss them.”

Are you able to follow your favorite football team, Spartak Moscow?

I am following Spartak always, not missing any match. At the moment, we are in third place after the first round of the championship.”

Since you’ve now experienced playing abroad, are you going to play another season abroad as well?

“If they offer a new contract, I will gladly stay in Qatar, everything is fine for me here.”

What are you expecting from 2021?

I hope that all these things will end so our fans can return to the stands. Also, I want to see people removing these masks from the faces.”

Can you share some message for all young volleyball players that are trying to become professionals?

My advice would be to work hard and to believe in yourselves. Follow your dream and everything will be fine.”
