The countdown to CEV EuroVolley 2026 Women is gaining a musical dimension. After Croatia’s women’s national team spontaneously created and performed its own anthem, Sweden has now introduced a song of its own ahead of the championship in Göteborg.
Sweden’s official EuroVolley song, “Hur vi skimrade” (“How We Shimmered”), was released on August 7. Performed by Göteborg artist Jackie Mere, the track will make arena debut on August 21, when Mere performs live at Scandinavium before Sweden’s opening match against Montenegro.
The project is a first for Swedish volleyball, with an official championship song never previously created for one of the country’s national teams.
“Hur vi skimrade” was written by Stina Lindberg and Simon Ljungman and produced by Andreas “Hyena” Soderlund. Swedish stars Anna and Isabelle Haak also took part in the creative process, with Isabelle adding a piano part to the recording.
The song combines themes of unity, determination and self-belief with influences from arena chants and Göteborg’s music scene, creating a soundtrack designed for both the Swedish team and its home supporters.
Sweden will host EuroVolley Pool D at Scandinavium from August 21 to 27. The group features Sweden, Montenegro, Slovakia, Italy, Croatia and France, with 15 matches scheduled across seven days.
The event will be particularly significant for the hosts as Sweden stages a senior women’s volleyball championship on home soil for the first time.
And when Sweden and Croatia eventually meet in Pool D, they will have something more than volleyball in common: both teams will have arrived at EuroVolley with their own soundtrack.
