The home heroines of Turkey claimed gold this past weekend at the Balkan Junior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Izmir as they conceded only one set to their opponents, actually in the “final” game with Serbia (25-27, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-17). Serbia eventually settled for silver while Romania got bronze.

Turkey started their campaign on September 6 by routing Romania in straight sets (25-17, 25-18, and 25-15) while Serbia powered past Bulgaria 3:1 (25-19, 25-13, 20-25, and 25-17).
On the second day of the tournament Turkey stretched their positive record by sweeping Bulgaria in straight sets (25-13, 25-13, and 25-15) while Serbia quite surprisingly needed five sets to best Romania (18-25, 25-13, 21-25, 25-13, and 15-13).
On the final day and with gold at stake, Turkey lost the opening set but eventually got past Serbia while Romania needed only three sets to slip past Bulgaria (25-19, 25-22, and 25-9) and win bronze.
