CL M: Celebration in Athens, Olympiacos beat Maaseik

Olympiacos made a big step towards second round as they beat Noliko Maaseik 3-1 (28-26, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23).

The first set decided many things, not just who will take the advantage at the beginning of the match. Olympiacos managed to break their rivals on point difference. After excellent service of Maroulis, ball reflected back to the Piraeus side of net and Smaragdis spiked it immediately for 28:26.

Red and whites acquired necessary psychological boost and used it to win second set as well. Noliko Maaseik kept pace till 20-20, but Olympiacos scored three points in a row and finished the job afterwards with spike of Jurišić.

But when everybody expected final strike of Greeks, Maaseik made quite a return to this game. They led from first to the last point in third set, survived, and then started in the same manner in fourth.

Again, Belgians were constantly ahead…until Olympiacos equalized on 21:21! And, red and whites won two next points as well (23-21)! Fans went ecstatic, Maaseik tried to silence them with another equalize (23-23), but red and whites fired up atmosphere with another two in a row and whole Arena started celebrating important victory.  

Home side was led by Yordanov who collected 20 points, and Caldeira who added 17. At away team Pereyra made 24, while Maan scored 21 points.
