Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mrs. Nikolina Brnjac met on April 13th, 2023, with the president of CVF, Mr. Frane Žanić, and the director of the federation, Mrs. Valentina Bifflin.
At the meeting, they discussed the plans and projects of the Croatian Volleyball Federation and the further development of volleyball in Croatia, as well as the 2nd World Sports Tourism Congress, where special focus will be placed on positioning Croatia as a sports tourism destination.
Croatian Volleyball Federation is organizing prestigious international competitions in Croatia this year, which have a strong influence on the development of tourism and sports , as well as the fact that our national team members will also perform at international competitions outside Croatia, being very good promoters of Croatian sports.
Croatia will this year host the CEV second round of qualification for the European championship for U17 which will be played in Bibinje (April 21-24), the Golden European League for seniors in Zadar (June 11-18), the Final four of the Golden European League (June 24- 25) and for the first time Croatia will host the World Junior Championship in Osijek (August 1-11), which will result in over 25,000 overnight stays in destinations across Croatia.
Our national teams will be great promoters of Croatian sports outside the borders of Croatia as well, so our women’s senior national team will play in the prestigious FIVB League of Nations at tournaments in Japan, Brazil and Thailand, and they will prepare for that competition in Zagreb in the newly renovated hotel Zonar, formerly known as Panorama.
The women’s U17 national team qualified directly from the MEVZA tournament for the European Championship in Serbia and Hungary, and will prepare in Valpovo, while U19 from the junior national team will prepare in Osijek, where they will play the World Junior Championship in early August. It is important to emphasize that two groups will be played at the World Junior Championship and the city of Osijek will host the national team of Turkey, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Nigeria, the USA, Serbia, Poland, Mexico, Japan and Korea.
The crown of this year’s national season is of course the performances of the women’s and men’s senior national teams at the European Championships in Italy and Bulgaria, for which our national teams will prepare in Zadar, Vinkovci and Osijek.
The cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian Volleyball Federation is extremely important for Croatian sports and tourism, where Croatian national team members and all volleyball competitions and volleyball as a sport will play a big role for our beautiful country.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Government of the Republic of Croatia, headed by the Prime Minister, Mr. Andrej Plenković, and the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mrs. Nikolina Brnjac for the excellent cooperation and support they give to Croatian sports, especially volleyball. The unreserved support and understanding of these two institutions in Croatia is very important for the development of young sportsmen and women in their sports careers and life. The Croatian Volleyball Federation will continue to be a persistent promoter of Croatia in the world and Europe, both in senior competitions and in all younger age categories,” said the president of the Croatian Volleyball Federation, Mr. Frane Žanić, at the end of the meeting.
