Emanuele Birarelli – Italy captain: “We know we have some problems in this World Championship and this game could have changed our history. We didn’t play well today, we’ve had our chances in the second set but didn’t have enough consistency to win it. I’m disappointed and apologise to every Italian fan who expected more of us in this competition. We are professionals and we have dignity – that’s our motivation to go on.”

Dragan Stankovic – Serbia captain: “This victory was really important; a crucial thing to win was not to make any more mistakes. We have started really good, in the second set we started well too and thought that result could be in our pocket, but Italy fought back. We kept our focus, which moved on also to the last set and this helped us to win three important points.”

Mauro Berruto – Italy coach: “Lately I can congratulate opponent quite often. Maybe it doesn’t look like it, but we worked quite a lot this summer to be well prepared. After a bad start we couldn’t find our game. We had the same attempts of dig-attack like Serbia, but they scored much more from that element. This element shows which team is brave, which team have more character. That’s why we lost this match.”

Igor Kolakovic – Serbia coach: “Ivan Zaytsev’s absence was a handicap for them, but it doesn’t mean it would be an easy match. Especially second set was difficult for my players, but we kept our concentration and I’m happy that this is the fifth victory in this World Championship. These three points put us closer to the third round.”
