IN MEMORIAM: Dejan Brđović passed away

WorldofVolley regrets to inform the passing away of Serbian coach and former player and captain of Yugoslavian national volleyball team Dejan Brđovic after a short and serious illness at the age of 49!

Dejan Brđović started volleyball career in volleyball team Žiča. Afterwards, he continued career in Ribnica where he spent a few seasons. During the period in Ribnica he managed to earn a call for international duty of Yugoslavia. In 1985, he decided to move to Crvena zvezda. Seven years later, he went abroad to Olympiacos. Later, he played in Italy and again in Greece, and at the beginning of the 21 century, he came back to Serbia. Firstly, he played in Crvena zvezda (2002-2003) and in Radnicki Kragujevac he ended his career as a player.

He started coaching career in Radnicki Kragujevac and in season 2006/2007 he took the first place in regular season but his team didn’t manage to win the title after losing playoff finals series. After Radnicki, he was a coach of women’s team Asistel Novara, Rabita Baku and Vizura Beograd. At the very end of 2009 he became sports director of Ribnica…Last season, he was the head coach of Rabita Baku…

In 1996 he was part of the Yugoslav team which won the bronze medal in the Olympic tournament.

His son Aleksa made up the men’s national team of Serbia and currently is playing for Gazprom Yugra while daugher Aleksandra is playing for Crvena zvezda.
