The Council, chaired by FIVB executive vice-president Aleksandar Boricic, decided to introduce the Under 23 World Championships in order to provide another opportunity for age-group players to participate in an international tournament with the goal of reducing the gap between age-group and senior level volleyball. The details of the number of teams participating will be discussed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the 2013 calendar also featured the change of dates of the FIVB Club World Championships, which will move from October to early May with the exact dates and host city still to be confirmed, while the venues and dates of the age-group World Championships were announced as per below.
The World League and World Grand Prix Councils had earlier confirmed the format and timings of their competitions in their meetings on Saturday and Sunday respectively. A further meeting will take place from January 31 to February 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland to decide a long-term FIVB calendar from 2014-2022 in an effort to streamline all of the FIVB’s volleyball properties.
Meanwhile, the Sports Events Council confirmed that the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2014 to take place from September 3-21 in the cities of Lodz, Katowice, Krakow and Wroclaw. The dates of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2014, which will be held in six out of seven proposed Italian cities – Milan, Verona, Trieste, Modena, Ancona, Rome and Bari – will be announced before the end of the year.
