FUKUOKA, Japan — The quarterfinal lineup at the AVC Men’s Volleyball Asian Championship is nearly complete, with seven teams already through after Monday’s action.
Australia secured their place with a convincing 3-0 victory over Oman, winning 25-18, 25-14, 25-22. The result also guaranteed host Japan a spot in the last eight. Lorenzo Pope led Australia with 16 points, while Lincoln Alexander Williams contributed 12.
China followed with another straight-set win, defeating New Zealand 25-17, 25-22, 25-18. That result sent both China and Iran into the quarterfinals. Zhang Jingyin scored 11 points for China, while Mana Placid led New Zealand with 15.
Thailand produced the most dramatic result of the day, edging Korea 3-2 in Pool C. After taking the first two sets, Thailand saw Korea level the match before closing out the decider 15-12.
Napadet Bhinijdee and Korea’s Heo Subong each finished with 25 points. Thailand, Korea and Chinese Taipei are now all assured of quarterfinal places. Thailand and Korea, along with third-placed Chinese Taipei, are also sure to compete for the berths in the semifinals.
Tuesday’s matches will feature India against New Zealand, Qatar against Korea and a clash in Pool A between Japan and Australia.
The championship also serves as part of the qualification pathway for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup.
