PHI W: Champions Foton continue to look down other teams, U.S. receiver Niemer boosts Petron with 7 aces

Foton Tornadoes stretched their unbeaten streak in the Philippine Women’s Volleyball SuperLiga Grand Prix to six games as they downed Generika Lifesavers in straight sets, partially 25-16, 27-25, 25-20.

Title defenders Foton broke the resistance of visitors mostly thanks to foreign duo Lindsay Stalzer and Ariel Usher. American players scored 21 and 20 points respectively. Foton coach, Serbian Branislav Moro, was deprived of help from domestic star Alyja ‘Jaja’ Santiago, due to her university obligations, second match in a row.

Another U.S. player stood out in Round 7. Stephanie Niemer led Petron Blaze Spikers’ way towards easy victory over RC Cola Air Force Raiders 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-16). University of Cincinnati graduate had 37 points of which seven were aces! Petron scored its sixth win in seven matches, second behind unbeaten defending champions Foton. Jovelyn Gonzaga and Royse Tubino scored seven points each for RC Cola, who dropped to 2-4.

American Hayley Spelman powered F2 Logistics Cargo Movers to a four-set win over Cignal HD Spikers, with partial 25-16, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16. She scored game-high 23 points. F2 Logistics took advantage of the absence of Puerto Rican star Lynda Morales in Cignal, who sprained her ankle five days ago. Rookie Janine Marciano finished with 13 points for losing team. It was the Cargo Movers’ fourth win in seven outings, putting them third in the standings while Cignal remained down in the standings with a 1-4 record.
