In Pool A, the only remained pool of the Asian Qualification Tournament, in Ardabil, Iran, the Qatari NT made another upset. After beating South Korea in the opening match, the team from the Persian Gulf downed the 2017 Asian Championship runners-up Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18).

Thus, Qatar kept their hopes of qualifying for the World Champs alive while, at the same time, they shattered Kazakhastan’s dreams of doing the same.

The hosts Iran overpowered China in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-20) to achieve the second win in as many matches, pushing their rivals to the 2-1 record. A newly promoted reinforcement of the Polish side PGE Skra Bełchatów, Milad Ebadipour, topped Iran with 14 points.

The fifth contestants in Pool A (two best-ranked teams will advance to the World Championship), South Korea, had a day of rest.
