In a highly intense final match of the 29th Summer Universiade that lasted exactly two hours, and was played in front of 4,000 spectators at the National Taiwan University Sports Center in the Taipei City, Taiwan, Iran came back after trailing 2-1 in sets to win by a 3-2 (25-17, 15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13).

Thus, Iran have grabbed the first-ever medal in the Men’s Volleyball Tournament in the Summer Universiade.

A 26-year-old Saipa Alborz VC receiver Saeid Shiroodghorbani topped Iran with 15 points. A 27-year-old Dinamo Leningradskaya Oblast receiver Anton Botin was the best scorer in Russia with 21 points.

The Japanese National Team downed Ukraine in four sets to claim the bronze medal.
