Sesc RJ achieved the straight-set win on the road against the Superliga Masculina debutants América Vôlei in the first round of the new season: 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 26-24). The team that was established this summer by merging with Montes Claros Vôlei was a worthy opponent to the title favorites only in the third set, but that is when the strength and experience of the two Olympic champions from Sesc emerged. Maurício Borges and Wallace Souza did not have a noticeable attack success rate in the match, 29% and 38% respectively, but were on the high level when it mattered the most.
Gustavo Bonatto “Gustavão“ top-scored for Sesc with 13 points, including 5 kill blocks, while Argentinean Jan Martínez made 90% reception (10 digs, 90% excellent). Renan Moralez scored 11 points for América.
