In mid-September, the FIVB warned Urmia that it will start a legal procedure against them if they fail to fulfill two-year-old financial obligations to former players Dragan Travica and Olli-Pekka Ojansivu, the head coach Ljubomir Travica and fitness coach Andrea Pozzi until the end of the month.
However, the warning and previously imposed sanctions by the FIVB did not take effect on the Iranian powerhouse. Yes, Urmia were unable to hire foreign players but were re-admitted to the national championship and regularly started the season. The next step, if all the others that were taken don’t force Urmia to pay arrears to the quartet of its ex-members, is to put pressure on the Iranian Volleyball Federation (IRIVF), who allowed Urmia to compete in the 2019/20 Super League, to resolve the situation.
